Get your fresh food from Black farmers

There's no national Black-owned brand of fresh produce, meat or eggs on grocery shelves yet. So go straight to the farm. The Black Farmers Index is our guide for this part of the list.

  • 300+farms raising meat
  • 300+organic, natural or regenerative farms
  • 12regions, every state
  1. Open the Index and pick your region.
  2. Choose your state and browse the farms listed there.
  3. Contact the farm about pickup, delivery, CSA boxes or the markets where they sell.

Brands that changed hands

Some names you grew up with were started by us and later sold. They're marked on the list so you can decide for yourself.

Produce, vegetables, meat and eggs: there's no national Black-owned brand on grocery shelves yet. Use the Black Farmers Index to buy straight from Black farms in your state, or shop a Black-owned grocer. In Hampton Roads, the Mid-Atlantic Black Farmers Market sets up at E. Palmer Supermarket in Berkley.
How to use this

Make it a habit, not a hashtag

Swap one aisle at a time

Start with coffee, snacks or soap. Next trip, add another aisle. It adds up fast.

Ask at the register

If your store doesn't carry a brand, ask the manager to stock it. Stores track requests.

Set up auto-delivery

Detergent, toilet paper and coffee all ship on subscription straight from the brands.

Pass it on

Send this page to one more person. That's how a family list turns into a movement.
